Welcome to Refuge
One King, One People, One Purpose
“I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Psalm 91:2
Welcome to Refuge Southern Ohio! We invite you to join us as we pursue our life’s journey to discover Jesus Christ, the Lord of all. Our approach is relational, our heart is loving, and our purpose is revealing the one true God.
Who We Are
Our mission is to make disciples, preach the kingdom of God, and destroy the works of the devil by offering a place for ministries and providing resources to see others discover the love of God. (Matthew 28:18-20, 1John 3:8, Romans 16:20)
Refuge Southern Ohio Inc. was created with two primary purposes. That we all might “know the person of Jesus Christ” and to “make disciples.” The call of every believer is to be translated into the image of Jesus. To make disciples we must come together under the headship of Jesus and share life in Him. (2 Corinthians 3:18).
The key to learning is wrapping everything we do in His love from beginning to end. He is our Savior, Lord, and King. Yes, our all in all. (Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27, Deuteronomy 11:1, Deuteronomy 30:16-20).
We are excited to advance the kingdom of God in our community to discover the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. What a privilege to disciple others as they discover Jesus and who they are in Him.

Our Story
Refuge Beginnings
Refuge began as a men’s Bible study. Several men came together desiring to make a difference in their lives by challenging themselves to become the men of God they were called to be. As others came to the meetings and were invited to local events we saw the need to “make disciples.” Our small beginnings of a willingness to discuss the Bible openly afforded us a greater understanding of His ways. This has led us to encouraging others to begin “doing” the works of God.
The Difference
Organizationally our approach to accomplishing this is the difference. We are not set up like a typical church structure having positions of a pastor, associate pastor, secretary, elders, etc. Our focus is on outreach and connecting the body of Christ relationally. We make disciples who then go make disciples. It starts with Jesus and then the family. So we encourage a structure of teaching the authority of the believer to walk in faith as they discover this glorious salvation and all the promises the Lord gave each of us. (1 Timothy 1-16, Matthew 28:18, Ephesians 5:15-33)
Carrying Out the Mission
We purchased the former Ohio Avenue Church in New Boston and are using it for ministry to the community. We have formed partnerships with other ministries and continue to pursue connecting with other organizations that have a heart for the community through outreach with a desire for everyone to “know Jesus”. Our heart is to work alongside one another providing support for many events.
